Oriental Carpets

Time to get started on this topic. Take a few moments to read every aspect of this paper hopefully it will be of great help.

Nearly everyone loves the look of beautiful oriental carpets. They have a style and elegance to them that is all their own. For many people, the price of such antique rugs keeps them from getting one, but for those lucky enough to be able to afford one, an oriental area rug is a beautiful addition to any home. Once an oriental rug is purchased, however, what are the steps that need to be taken to keep it in good condition?

Oriental carpets come in many different varieties and sizes. Some of these styles can include: silk rugs, antique rugs, Turkish rugs, Persian rugs, tribal rugs, Soomak rugs, and may others. Each of these carpets has their own unique style. Simple steps can be taken to preserve the beauty of these custom carpets so that they will last a very long time. The first step in proper care is to keep foreign substances and objects away from the rugs. A floor plan that avoids the traffic of pets and shoes is the best plan.

Also, keep food away from any carpeting. Heavy objects sitting on a carpet, especially an antique rug, can ruin the appearance. Therefore, keep heavy objects off the carpets, and also keep high heels and wheeled objects away as well. The best way to ensure that your carpet stays in top condition is to wait until it is truly dirty before trying to clean it. For high traffic areas, this can be once a year, yet for less used places, it can be several years before a carpet is truly dirty.

First of all, how do you tell if your rug is dirty? The best way to tell is to pick up a corner and beat it with your hand. If more than a little dust flies out, then it probably needs to be cleaned. Another way to tell is to rub your hand against the carpet for several seconds. If you hand feels dirty afterwards, then your area rug needs to be cleaned. So when you do get ready to clean your oriental carpet, how should it be done?

There are several carpet treatment methods that can be used, from having a professional clean your rug, to sending it out to be cleaned, to cleaning it yourself. If you are worried about ruining the rug if you clean it yourself, then it is probably best to let a professional handle it. However, it can be rather simple to clean it yourself. To clean an area rug yourself, all you have to do is follow a few simple steps. First vacuum the rug really well on both sides. Then take a mild detergent solution and a soft brush.

Softly brush the solution into the rug in the direction of the nap. Try to use as little of the solution as possible, or else the rug will take forever to dry. Then rinse the rug with clear water, squeeze out the excess water and hang the rug to dry in the sun.

Now you know when to clean your precious oriental carpets and how to do it. For large area rugs, it is best to let a professional clean them. But for small carpets and rugs, it is just fine to clean them yourself. Try to stick to the instructions as closely as possible and your rug will come out fine. Good luck with your rug cleaning!

Today's Tip On Carpet

The different types of Turkish carpets do have different characteristics. Wool on wool carpets, for example, tends to have a low knot count and non-intricate patterns, like geometric shapes, while wool on cotton has a higher knot count and more intricate patterns, including floral designs. Silk on silk rugs have the highest knot count and usually have very intricate patterns. In addition to materials used, you can determine whether the rug is hand-or machine-spun by looking at the back of it. If the squares are all the same size, then the rug has been machine-spun. You can also tell whether the dyes used are natural or the less expensive chemical versions by wiping a spot of the rug with a damp white cloth. If color bleeds off, then chemical dyes have been used. Keep in mind that bleeding off on the cloth also means they will bleed onto each other if the carpet is washed.
